VESTA WILLIAMS: One of the greats. R.I.P. [VIDEO]

When I got the news, it was from a close record label friend of mine in L.A.. During our 4 hour long conversation, he informed me of Vesta's passing. At the time, her cause of death had not been determined. He had gotten the call right after she was found. It had not even hit the internet yet. I was in shock! What happened?? Vesta, like Phyllis Hyman, was a woman of the 80's with a fabulous singing career. How could could this happen? Back in the day, when everyone had big hair and colorful clothing, Vesta blew in like a breath of clean air. Her voice was captivating. People stopped in their tracks to enjoy her blessed voice. When her single Congratulations came out, I could not believe my ears. At a time when R&B music was in transition, Vesta's voice reminded you of what R&B was supposed to sound like. The lyrics of the song were very intense and meaningful. As a woman, I could identify with the situation of watching the man I love walk down the aisle with another woman. It also allowed me to choose to be more mature in my thinking when it came to men. The marriage of the music and the emotional feelings put forth by Vesta gave birth to one of the classics songs of the 80's. Arsinio Hall, who had the greatest late night talk show of the era, was kind enough to share this video with us. It is a clip of Vesta, on his show, performing a duet, with Larry Hart (on piano). Beautifully and perfectly performed! We love you, Vesta. You will truly be missed.
